Cum catapultae proscriptae erunt tum soli proscript catapultas habebunt.
Translation: When catapults are outlawed, only outlaws will have catapults
It's hard for me to believe that I picked up this tired, busted,
retired old soldier and nursed, beat, cajoled, and ultimately
resurrected this old iron and steel machine. I picked up my M37
in April of 2004, and from 2004-2006 I lost blood, sweat, time to
restoring her as I wanted her to be.
I can only say if you are thinking of doing this yourself- DO IT, I
haven't had any regrets, and the shows, hotrod clubs, military
vehicle groups, veterans groups, etc, always pay me back with
smiles, questions and memories. And if you think you'll be done
some day. You won't. I went on to collect tools, trailers,
accessories, militaria of all sorts, a 1943 Willys I restored with
my son, and I keep on collecting and restoring. The OD Fever
is incurable..
Diary of a restoration:
2006-2011 what a ride
The links above describe what I did during the first two years of my restoration, I started to run out of time to update my site, so
here in a nutshell is what I have done since then:
In Spring of 2006 a new addition came to my family, my son Jake, bought a 1943 Willys jeep, so I helped him get that up and
running (he was fifteen at the time.
In late 2006 I made a significant decision to change my career. I left my full time job as Chief of Police, and in January of 2007
moved north to Wisconsin, Johnson Creek. Finally in June of 2007 I was able to haul up my M37, the MB, my M416, and all the
gear I had collected. I kept on restoring the truck, small things really, a couple of brake cylinders, some ignition work, and all
new canvas for the truck. I hit all the local car shows, and really turned some heads, it was a lot of fun. Then on a fluke, I came
into an M101 trailer, in great shape, and it was a 1953!! So I took on the task of restoring that as well.
