History does not long entrust the
care of freedom to the weak or timid. -- President Dwight Eisenhower
Here is a short listing of some of the events I try to attend each
year.

RECLAIMING OUR
HERITAGE 2009
Free-Admission,
Family-Friendly, Positively-Patriotic Event at Milwaukee VA
Hundreds of reenactors
and veterans will bring American history to life May 30-31, 2009,
at Reclaiming Our Heritage, an annual encampment and veteran tribute
event at the Zablocki VA Medical Center, 5000 W. National Ave.,
Milwaukee.
The weekend includes
the Saturday morning Positively Patriotic Parade (10 a.m.), tours of the
historic buildings and grounds, military vehicle displays, and free
entertainment. Two of the most popular facets of the event are the
Saturday evening Cemetery-by-Lantern Tours and Sunday morning VA
chaplains' field service. Saturday will feature a Timeline of American
Fire Power while Sunday will include a Civil War skirmish based on the
Battle of Vicksburg.
Reclaiming Our Heritage
is sponsored by the Friends of Reclaiming Our Heritage, Inc., and hosted
by the staff of the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. For
information: www.rohmilwaukee.org or (414) 902-5599.
The midwest's
largest swapmeets and car shows are hosted by Madison Classics. These
car shows and swapmeets are great places to buy and sell cars and hard
to find car parts. The season starts with the Spring Jefferson Swapmeet,
continues with the Summer Elkhorn Swapmeet, and ends with the Fall
Jefferson Swapmeet. Learn more about our great car shows and swapmeets!
